Does anyone know of a way to find the Product Key of an existing install... perhaps from the registry or some other means?

That's not the Product Key used to install.

The first 5 numbers are the product code. I have 82898
The last 5 numbers... I don't know what they are.
In between is the CD key. It reads on the CD
cover as 123-1234567. In the serial number the - is missing.

So it's 12345 CD-key 12345

It's probably in the Registry, but I don't see it.

Ahh, so for example, if the serial number is 12345-7654321321-89898, during the install you would enter 765-4321321?

I've found several utilities at Nirsoft that are indispensible!

Doersn't work here. Maybe it doesn't go back to VS6.

Nirsoft does have a lot of nice tools. I've used them before

Then none of those is able to do miracles, I've tried the viewer on a
w2k VM with VS6 enterprise installed, but it wasn't able to retrieve
the CD key, searching the intertubes, sounds like the infos are in the
registry, as binary blobs and in some files, but then I didn't go on
and fathom the thing, all in all I still have the box and the CDs in
case I'll ever need them, but I probably won't, it's easier to move the
VM image around as needed, also since it carries a whole bunch of 3rd
party stuff which isn't around anymore :D

Apparently. That would work for me.

I did a search in the Registry for my name, which also shows
in the About window. I ran Regmon and Filemon. I don't see where
it's getting that data from. Which is odd. I thought I remembered
other software getting my name from a VB/VS Registry setting.
Wherever it's coming from, it seems to be encrypted.
